Co-financing

Diputació de Barcelona functions include support for municipalities in planning and management of natural areas to ensure the conservation and sustainable use of natural resources and territorial equilibrium. To this end, the Provincial Government has developed specific instruments such as forest owners’ associations or the Network of Natural Parks. In this context, the cork oak groves are very relevant in Barcelona forest, and most especially in various natural areas managed by the Provincial Government jointly with the municipalities and forest owners. Therefore, this project is of utmost importance for the Provincial Government of Barcelona and justifies the co-financing proposed.

Company leader in the purchase, preparation and processing of cork with a strong commitment to preserving the habitat of cork oak and improving its sustainable management. Proof of this is its commitment to sustainable forest certification and custody chain certification to facilitate traceability and maximum information about the origin of the cork to hit the market and good practices related to responsible management of cork oak groves.

The Institut Català del Suro, created in 1991, is a consortium composed by: Generalitat de Catalunya, AECORK (Cork Business Association of Catalonia), Consorci Forestal de Catalunya, Chambers of Commerce of Palamós and Sant Feliu de Guíxols, Municipalities of Palafrugell, Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Cassà de la Selva, and University of Girona.

The Institute aims to promote and develop the cork industry in its aspects of production, processing and marketing through study, research, advice and assistance to agencies, associations, companies and people related to the sector.
